project: Encyclopedia of the Weird and Wonderful
client: Wellfleet Press, The Quarto Group
art direction: Scott Richardson
author: Milo Rossi
brief: front cover images and 38 interior illustrations in full page, half page, and spot.
solution: I decided to go with a woodcut look to give the disparate subject matter a unified feeling of antiquity, as if the images were hand-carved in the stones of time. The Amazon page calls out “comprehensive, display-worthy illustrated references on a range of intriguing topics, including archeological discoveries, world mythology, pop culture, global superstitions, and the fascinating stories behind signs and symbols.”
“Terry Marks is the best thing since sliced bread. What else can I say? Her illustrations are pretty great too.”
